Yes, now that the election is over and the proposition 8 riots have gotten off the front page, I don't have much to talk about. Work has been keeping me extremely busy. There is a $1000 bonus being offered to the assistant manager in the region who comes up with the lowest delinquent accounts in November and December, and I think I've got a pretty good chance at getting it. If you don't know what that means, you would think people would just pay their rent by the day it is due, right? Well, as a property manager I have learned that only about 75% of people understand that. Rent at our property is due on the 1st day of every month, and late fees are charged on the 3rd. Simple formula, right? Well, today is the 14th, and I still have several accounts that have not paid a dime yet. I have several others who have bounced rent checks, and who only made partial payments, and who have been just a few dollars short for some reason. I started the process to evict a guy for non-payment of rent yesterday. That stinks for him and for me, because eviction will cost him close to $3,000 when his rent was just $1,700. It stinks for me because that's going to make it tougher for me to get my $1000 bonus... Yesterday, I had been trying and trying and trying to get ahold of some residents who owed $100 and $400. They didn't return my calls, didn't respond to my emails, and ignored my eviction letters that I send out before I can evict someone. Both residents had parents who had co-signed on the apartment (like co-signing for a loan), so finally I called these residents' parents to tell them what was going on because going to evictions affects co-signers too. One of the parents said "Ok I'll call my daughter and get her to take care of this, I'm very sorry about her behavior". The other parent flipped out on me and started into "My son is very responsible! He has a job and I pay his rent every month when he can't afford it! You must have lost his check" I waited until she was finished with her little emotional outburst, then explained that my call was only a courtesy to let her know that if I did not receive payment by the following day, her son would be evicted. She said she'd put a check in the mail. Very sad. Mom pays her son's rent, and insists it is my fault that he hasn't called me back, responded to email, or taken eviction notices seriously. Well, I'm not involved in the way she is raising her kids, I just want the money.
The Office is on the rise again! Last night was the funniest episode in a very long time! The opening part was SO HILARIOUS!!! Michael in the conference room is explaining foreign traditions and the need to be globally aware because he is going on an international business trip -- to Canada. Michael says to Meredith "Pretend you're an Arab". Meredith: (Arab accent) "Hello". Michael: "I am offended by your naked face. I must cover it with my jacket." (Michael covers Meredith's face with his suit jacket) "Now, you are sexy in your culture." Awkward silence. Break for opening song. Andy creates some incredibly awkward moments hanging out with Oscar in a bar, Jim and Pam make progress, and Michael... poor Michael. Very funny, I was laughing the whole time.

I know I'm spoiled with a DVR, but the thing is 0/4 this week on FAIL. It marks all my shows as recorded but hasn't. Grrr! I watched Heroes and Chuck last night on Hulu, and the Office should show up today. I tried not to read your not-really-spoiler but I couldn't help it.
Collections sucks. It was my first job when I came home from my mission; my friend was doing it and got me hired. I had no idea what it was. I was done 6 months later. Good luck with the bonus!!
If collections was all I did, it would totally suck. Since its only a small part of my job it is ok. I actually get this evil feeling of satisfaction when I send someone to collections. Its my way proving that they can't get away with trying to take advantage of me. Bad, I know.
When I was teaching piano lessons, I once had a mother threaten to sic a collection agent on me because I wouldn't give her a refund when she decided to pull her kids out of lessons two weeks early. People should really read the fine print and learn a little responsibility! :-) Sucks for them!
As it turns out, she actually still owed me a month's tuition... maybe I should have sent her to collections?
Yeah you totally should have sent them to collections! If people quit their lease on us we have a lease break fee that they think they don't really owe us. Yeah, tell that to the attorney. Its in your lease folks, read it. It just blows my mind that people can get a bill in the mail and not take it seriously! I mean, I make three attempts minimum to contact people before I send them to collections. They know it is happening, and then after I send them they decide to call me and they say "Why did you send me to collections?" Are you serious?
I actually liked the office better last week... but this week was pretty darn good too.
I love dealing with people at one stop who come in and refuse to pay for classes that they dropped after the refund deadline. They can petition for a refund, but people are too lazy to do that and get mad when we suggest it. So sometimes I take great satisfaction in telling them, ok. Don't pay it. But it will be sent to collections. People are retarded...
Chelsea you're hilarious. People are retarded. I wish I lived somewhere where I would't be butchered for saying things like "that's retarded" or "that's gay". Its just not politically correct, and California is too liberal to have a sense of humor.
