Tam and I were in Utah for the 4th of July. It was a quick trip, but it was a lot less expensive than we thought it would be. That will make it easier for us to make it home a little more often than I had originally thought, although that drive is a beast. For those of you wondering, the drive on Highway 50 is a lot more fun, but its a couple hours longer because of the roads and traffic around Lake Tahoe. I thought it was worth it, but if you are all and only about getting there, take the freeway. We had to make stops every so often for Samson. He was a pretty good traveling companion. Well, not as good as Tamara of course, but for a dog he was pretty fun to have around. We found it interesting that he preferred to curl up and sleep in my lap most of the way (I was driving) rather than on the pillow on Tamara's lap. He'd curl up on my lap and go to sleep, and slowly slide forward until he'd be just about to fall on the floor of the car, then he'd jerk awake and catch himself right before slipping off. Every time that happened we'd try and get him to go over and sleep on the pillow instead, safe and sound, but would just come straight back to me and repeat the whole cycle.
Anyway, they don't call this the Loneliest Road for nothing. We saw more cars on it than we expected, actually, but there were stretches where we'd drive 40 or 50 miles and see only one or two cars pass us the opposite direction. Its a little freaky, not the kind of drive you'd want to do in a car that is not totally dependable. There is 50, 60, 70, 100 miles between towns, and the towns are tiny little cowboy stops. Definitely more fun than the freeway, but a little bit longer.
My work took me bowling a few days ago. In conversation before the game started, people were talking about how horrible they were at bowling, and I related that I, also, was a horrible bowler, and it had been years since I had gone bowling and my score was well under 100 points (all true, I've only broken 100 points a couple times ever). We played three games, about 10 people playing on three lanes. I was second best on the first game with about 120 points, and I won the next two games at 188 points and 138 points. It was ridiculous. People thought I had been lying to them, telling them that I am horrible and then throwing four strikes in a row, six in one game alone. I made sure to tell them that next time we go bowling, I will try and get back to form (under 100 points). It was kinda fun. They say next time it will be golf though. I don't even hope to compete at that...
