Round 2: Landslide!

The second presidential debate was tonight, and I expected it to be boring like the last one was. I think McCain seemed unprepared for it and Obama just continued his meaningless rhetoric about change without substance. Tonight, however, McCain was leading the charge and Obama was overwhelmed! I listened to a lot of it on the radio on my homeward commute tonight, and I got so pumped when McCain called Obama out on his tax plan. If you aren't aware, Obama has promised to cut taxes for 95% of all Americans, while dramatically increasing taxes on the "rich" (which he defines as any entity, person or business, taking in more that $250k per year). McCain has proposed a tax cut for everyone, including the rich. Everyone gets a similar percentage lower taxes to put more spending money into the economy, but incidentally McCain's plan means millions of dollars in tax breaks for big oil companies, which Obama continually harps on. What Mr. Obama does not seem to realize, is that sure, cutting taxes for middle-income families is nice and all, but if you increase taxes on businesses, those businesses have to "cut the fat". People get fired. Money drains from the economy. Prices go up. So sure, your taxes go down 5%, but the cost of milk, bread, and gas goes up 10% or more in order for these businesses to afford to do business. I'm sorry, Obama, but the only way of reviving this economy is by putting more free-trade money (not government owned, like this assinine bailout program that is not working at all) into it, by getting rid of useless government programs, eliminating wasteful spending, and putting all those billions of wasted dollars back into everyone's, including oil companies', pockets. McCain did a great job tonight pointing out all the garbage and rhetoric that defines Barack Obama's "policies". In the foreign policy arena, I think McCain made it absolutely obvious that Obama would lead our country directly into Al Qaeda's plans. He wants to bomb Pakistan!? Why in the world would we attack our ally? His logic made perverse sense, but he has the "judgment" of a jackass (he'll admit to that -- its the democrat party symbol) on how to conduct foreign affairs. Obama dodged question after question, hardly ever answering anything directly because he DOES NOT WANT US TO KNOW WHAT HIS REAL RADICAL POSITIONS ARE!!! He is an extremist, folks. I'm not saying I think he is going to start the next holocaust, KGB, or fascism, but in his way he really is not much different from Stalin, Castro, or Saddam Hussein. When you look past the words he says and see his actions in the past you can see what kind of man he really is. He is a power-hungry, controlling socialist, and if he is elected president, America will of course survive, but it will be a struggle. You think gas is expensive now? Food and rent? Paying too much in taxes? Barely feel like you are getting by? Just wait till a year from now and Obama is president (God forbid). You will feel it 10 times worse.

Anyway, I think McCain took round 2 in a landslide. He really made Obama look like the fool he is. Next round, I think McCain needs to do a little focusing on Obama's social record, and how Obama is a friend to terrorists and left wing extremists like Jeremiah Wright and William Ayers (and more). That is not speculation or rumor, by the way. It is a factual matter of record. Those men are terrorists and extremists who wish America would go to hell. And Obama launched his campaign in William Ayers' living room.

Ryan you should get rid of the mr.t video because when I try to read it the video covers over half of the words. I can only read half of your posts.

Well, glad you enjoyed that. Personally, I found the whole debate absurd and turned the channel to Food Network after the first fifteen minutes. I do have to say, however, that I don't think Obama's tax plan is as bad as you seem to think. The increase to the "rich" is not THAT dramatic if you consider the fact that he's really just reversing the tax cuts for the rich that Bush implemented and which DID NOT WORK. Obviously. Those tax breaks didn't really create new jobs or make life easier for anyone except the rich, which is not what they were supposed to do. Sure, people might lose jobs as a result of this tax increase, but I think it's a reversal that really ought to be made to balance things back out.

I think Obama is going to win this race, and I really don't think that would be an entirely bad thing. Our country needs some different thinking in the White House right now that McCain probably can't provide. Obama might not be ideal, but I think most of the changes he makes will be for the better. Besides, it's not like he can do too much damage. We have this great system of checks and balances that keep our President's decisions in line with the needs and desires of the people. Thus, even an "extremist" can't destroy our country by merely being elected President. If anything, I imagine it's his inexperience that causes us some problems, not his supposed radical positions or shady social record.

So there's my two cents for the day. :-)

How do you keep coming up with more and more to say about politics? Man...

Sorry Amberly, but if you're going to disagree with me on my blog, I'm going to get the last word.

I happen to know a thing or two about what I'm talking about. Obviously, I pay a bit more attention to politics than you do (you said yourself you switched the channel -- I watched the whole debate). Since you have already chosen who you are going to vote for, I don't presume to think I can change your mind. Go ahead and elect this friend-of-terrorists as your president because you think George Bush did a bad job. Well you know what? He didn't. He was true to his beliefs and did everything he could to keep this country safe and secure during his term, and he succeeded. Elect Obama and I can guarantee you that system of checks and balances won't make any kind of difference when Iran feels like bombing Israel, and Obama wants to "talk about it". When North Korea completes its nuclear arsenal and we are faced with imminent nuclear war, maybe you'll wonder who was the real failure in foreign policy -- Bush or Obama. Bush's tax cuts didn't work, you know why? The democrats and moderate republicans in congress screwed them all up. The people who blame Bush for the bad economy have no idea how it works. CONGRESS is in control of the economy, not the president. Sure he can affect it, but he hasn't got nearly the amount of control over it as the legislative branch.

The truth is that neither one of these guys has any business trying to be commander in chief. The difference is who will be worse for the country. Give me two people who want to screw things up: one has a public record of saying things and being sympathetic to anti-americans, pushing gay and abortion rights, raising taxes, reducing liberty and freedom. The other is a veteral war hero with a record of reducing taxes and government spending, winnning wars (who cares at this point whether it was necessary or not, WE HAVE TO WIN and Obama will lose it), and trying to work on bi-partisan issues that matter to eveyone. I don't understand why anyone would consider voting for the former.

Thanks for working me up like that. It really solidifies my views in my mind and helps me understand why I believe the things I do. You're of course welcome to your opinion, but I absolutely do not agree with you.

Just for future reference, would you prefer I keep my opinions to myself? I was kind of under the impression that this was the whole point of blogging about it, but maybe I'm wrong. Not that I mind you "getting the last word" on your own blog... it would just be nice to feel like you have an ounce of respect for an opinion that varies from your own, no matter how misguided you think it is. Nothing was said at that debate that I didn't already know or couldn't have predicted, so don't tell me I'm an ill-informed voter simply because I found an hour with Food Network to be more enlightening. FYI, I am registered to vote and WILL be voting, but not for either candidate under discussion.

Last word. Nuff said.

Arguing over this is he ridiculous and stupid. I think the energy and and wasted time spent could have been used to do something good. Politics are good at ripping the American family apart!

I re-read my comment and found a typo. The first sentence is supposed to read "Arguing over this is ridiculous and stupid." That is all.
