Football Is Upon Us!!!

GO COUGARS!!! BYU has been mentioned as a dark horse potential national champion this year in some articles I have read. I'm not getting my hopes up too high for that... But I do believe that they can and WILL go undefeated this year, and upset a high-profile BCS (Bull Crap Series) team in one of the 3 biggest BCS bowl games. I say let us embarrass Ohio State, Oklahoma (sorry Beau), or USC. With Utah and TCU both ascending deeper into the Top 25 teams in the nation, the MWC is becoming a "minor conference" to be reckoned with. I dare say our little conference of "lesser teams" is better than the Big East and ACC, and at least as good as the Big-10 and Big-12 conferences. I will continue to defy anyone who says the top tier of the MWC wouldn't be able to compete at the top levels of the SEC and PAC-10. Win some, lose some, sure. But I say this without hesitation: BYU will beat any team in the nation while playing at their full potential. Bring the heat, Washington! You will need it this weekend if you want to post any points on this defense!!! Which brings us next to the NFL, which everyone knows is just not quite as fun as college football but still good for kicks, and I am discovering the joy and pain of Fantasy Football as we speak! Tonight the NFL kicks off with the Washington Redskins vs New York Giants. I have two Giants receivers (Amani Toomer and Plaxico Burress) on my fantasy teams, and they are making catches all over the place but still no coveted touchdowns... Frustration! My superbowl pick this year may surprise some: Dallas Cowboys. I grew up a Cowboys hater. Jimmy Johnson, Bill Parcells, and any given Cowboy player was not on my love list. This year will be interesting to watch though, because quarterback Tony Romo, the unlikely new face of the Dallas Cowboys, is currently dating Jessica Simpson. That will last for maybe a few more weeks. When he dumps her or she dumps him, Tony Romo will go on a football rampage. I don't want to be the team he plays the Sunday following the nasty breakup. It's going to be ugly. Cowboys won't lose another game after that, just watch. Just watch.

BYU can't take USC on. They're incredible. Oklahoma is scary too, along with Missouri. Georgia is a team BYU could take down, along with Ohio State, but be realistic - we're awesome, but not the juggernaught that defines USC, Oklahoma, and Missouri. Give us a couple years and maybe.

As far as the "minor conference" goes, the MWC is pulling down big numbers against possibly the most major conference in the NCAA, the Pac-10. TCU beat Stanford, BYU beat Washington (and dropped three rankings for it) and UCLA, and UNLV knocked off Arizona State. The MWC is scary. (and Utah could beat anyone in the conference except USC as well).

Ha ha, so glad Jason said that! Beau and I had been quietly laughing at the thought that anyone thought BYU would be a contender alongside USC or OU. Sorry, but they're still a bit behind even if they are having a stellar season.
